Record numbers enter Tour de Murray 2017

Chances for Children together with community partners Rotary Club of Mildura, held their 17th Annual Tour de Murray on Sunday 19 March 2017.

The Tour de Murray planning committee were excited to welcome the RACV on board as the major naming sponsor for this year’s event.

The Tour de Murray is a long established event on the local calendar and is a proven success, attracting many participants and community members.

This year’s event broke records with 395 participants registered in a range of events including:

  • 55km bike ride
  • 2.5km, 5km & 10km runs
  • Riverside walk with the Mayor of Mildura
  • Family bike ride
The day included a BBQ brunch, charity auction, kid’s activities including face painting and jumping castle.
We were privileged to have four special Tour de Murray ambassadors.

Kobe Mutch – Essendon footballer and past Chances recipient.
Kobe, a previous Chances recipient, was selected by the Bombers on draft night at the number 42nd overall pick in 2017.
Kobe grew up playing football in his hometown of Broken Hill, before moving to Gol Gol and then onto Bendigo to play with the Bendigo Pioneers. 

Matt Dea – Essendon footballer and long-time supporter of Chances.
Matt made his AFL debut in 2010 with Richmond, having played 31 games, Matt ended his time with Richmond at the end of 2015, just after winning the Best and Fairest Award for Richmond in the VFL league. 
Throughout 2016, Matt was one of the mainstays of the Bombers defence. He played 21 games, finished ninth in the Crichton Medal count and was awarded the Most Courageous Player award.

Xavier Bench-Rizio – past Chances recipient who received support to participate in football in 2016.
Xavier was very excited to meet Matt Dea and Kobe Mutch.
Stevi Robinson – current recipient studying at SuniTAFE.
Chances is helping Stevi by providing financial support with course fees, books and course materials.
