Established in 2000, Chances for Children is the result of a partnership between Mallee Family Care and the Water Authorities of North West Victoria. The partnership was founded on the belief that the future of the Mallee is dependant upon the well being and future of young people in the area and on the careful management of water – the two greatest resources of the Mallee. Seed funding was provided by the Water Authorities and in 2000, four students from Mildura Secondary College were offered financial assistance to undertake tertiary studies.
Mallee Family Care was established in North West Victoria and adjoining communities in New South Wales in 1979. It began as a response to clearly identified needs which were the result of economic and social disadvantage. The organisation strives to assist the most vulnerable members of the Mallee, young people and families in particular.
