How to Contact Us
Youth E - Mentoring matches adult mentors who are in the workforce with students aged 13 - 16 year of age who are, have been or may be at risk of disengaging from school.
With the rise of internet use, and social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, the Youth E - Mentoring Program hopes to harness this potential for communication to provide a familiar and contemporary context for the mentoring relationship.
While E-Mentoring is a relatively new approach, it has been shown to have positive results, and in fact removes some of the geographical barriers that traditional mentoring programs can face. As with traditional mentoring programs, an E-Mentor provides support and encouragement to the student and acts as a sounding board for the students ideas about anything from everyday issues young people face through to direction in career path. In all cases, the mentor and student will have support and assistance from program staff if required.
In addition to communicating via the secure custom chat room, there is also a face to face component to assist in the development of the mentoring relationship.
Every E - mentor is provided with training & support to assist them in their role as a mentor. As part of the application process, anyone interested in becoming a mentor is required to undergo a Police Check and/or a Working with Children check. In most cases, mentor matches are made on same gender basis.
